Ex-Libris
I designed this linoleum print as a special ex libris to symbolize the books belonging to our family. I wanted to create a personal memory object with both visual and meaning layers.
The starting point of the work is my surname “AkkuÅŸ” which translated on to ''white bird''. Inspired by this name, I placed a bird in the center of the print. The fact that the bird's head is shaped like an eye is not only a visual play, but also a detail connected to my mother's surname. This element creates a symbolic link that brings together family heritage from both my mother's and father's sides.
The wheat spike next to the bird represents my roots. As someone who was born and raised in Anatolia, wheat symbolizes both fertility and life connected to the land.
This ex libris print is not only a sign of who it belongs to; it is also a small but meaningful print that combines the traces of where I was born and live with our family history.
